The Legendary Dessert Mold

Later that day, as the sun began its descent, Emily rummaged through the storage room in search of a particular pan.

The tenseness between her and Oliver was palpable. Despite his sincere attempts to comfort her and apologize for the earlier debacle, a heavy cloud of unease remained. And though Emily had repeatedly assured him it wasn’t his fault, deep down, she couldn’t shake the feeling of foolishness. Letting Mayor Grindel witness their playful antics, especially after she had worked so hard to maintain the bakery’s reputation, was a blow to her pride.

A sigh escaped her lips as she tried to shake off the weight of the day’s events and focus on her current task.

Instead, her fingers brushed against something ornate and cold. Pulling it out, she turned the mold over in her hands. It was round, the size of a small plate, made of a silvery, luminescent metal that shimmered even in the dim light. The mold’s surface was decorated with intricate intertwining vines leading to a majestic tree at the center.

Just then, Oliver stepped into the room, “Emily, have you seen the—?” He paused, eyes widening as they landed on the dessert mold in her hands. “Where did you find that?”

She held it up, studying it with curiosity. “It was here, buried beneath some old pans. Do you recognize it?”

A hint of reverence touched Oliver’s features. “That’s the Mold of Memories. It’s said to have been crafted by Elowen, the ancient sorceress known for her desserts. Legends tell that any dessert made from this mold is not only a treat to the senses but also carries a touch of real magic. They say that any dessert made with this mold would taste of one’s happiest memory. A bite, and you’re transported to a cherished moment from your past.”

Emily’s eyes widened, though she remained skeptical. “Why would Grandma Whitmore have something like this?”

He smiled, brushing a stray lock of hair from his forehead as he said, “Mrs. Whitmore once told me she was gifted this mold as a thank you from a village elder she had helped during her travels. They said the mold was passed down through generations, but few knew of its magic.”

Emily tilted her head thoughtfully, the weight of the mold’s significance heavy in her hands. “If it held such incredible power, why wouldn’t she use it more often? Imagine all the joy it could bring.”

She sighed, her thoughts drifting back to the earlier events of the day. “I could sure use a happy memory right about now.”

He sighed softly, watching her. “She believed that memories were precious, and the mold’s magic should be reserved for truly special occasions so as not to diminish its enchantment. Too much of the past, she said, might deter us from creating new beautiful moments in the present.”

Pondering the revelation, Emily murmured, “To taste a memory… Do you think it works?”

Oliver hesitated for a moment, his eyes searching hers, “I’m not certain…Mrs. Whitmore said it does, but I’ve never tried it myself.
